This project aims are probabilistic modeling and statistical determination of neutron energy in future neutron detectors developed at the European Spallation Source (ESS). Novel probabilistic and statistical tools and techniques should be developed, as well as efficient computer algorithms. The PhD work will be done in collaboration with ESS.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

Basic eligibility for postgraduate studies is a university exam at an advanced level (master’s degree or equivalent.) The candidate is supposed to have a knowledge of mathematics at graduate level. In particular, merits for graduate courses in probability theory, inference theory, stochastic processes and mathematical analysis should be above average level. Successfully passed courses in advanced courses in physics give a priority for a candidate.

The candidate must have (or obtain within 3 months after the closing date) a Master Degree in Mathematics, or alternatively, a Master Degree in Mathematical Statistics, or a Master Degree in Physics.

Basis of Assessment

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
